Philanthropy

Deciding to make a difference

During our years of experience in advising on family wealth we have recognised that many clients wish to use their assets responsibly and help those who are less fortunate than themselves.

Some families choose to do this through setting up family companies that can direct assets to good causes and we can help you structure such a vehicle.

Unusually for a legal practice, within the wider Wellers Law Group we have two specialist organisations that offer support for those who have an interest in philanthropy and socially motivated investment.

Setting up your own charitable foundation

Have you ever thought about taking control of how your own charitable donations are used: focusing support on the causes that you and your family care about, without the often unknown overheads of major organisations?

Givingworks is able to make that happen. With a Givingworks account you can create your own chaitable foundation, with you in control.

As well as providing the legal, financial and governance infrastructure you need to create and run your own charitable foundation, GivingWorks offers you a complete administrative and reporting service. This leaves you free to concentrate on your involvement with your chosen charitable causes and grant-making projects and direct us in how best to support your goals.

Wellers Impact

Impact investment offers an alternative approach to traditional philanthropy which can be every bit as effective as ‘giving’.

Our impact investment business, Wellers Impact, aims for attractive financial returns from investing in businesses and projects that deliver social benefits to poor and excluded communities. At the present time, we are active in East Africa, helping charitable organisations to secure a long term income through development of their land and property. This expands the good work they continue to carry out to benefit youngsters and girls in particular and help those from poorer communities fulfill their potential.

Wellers Impact is also involved in supporting Water Unite – a global not-for-profit organisation founded to reduce water poverty, improve sanitation and lessen plastics pollution. Again the objective is to create a fund which targets market rate returns at the same time as addressing these critical social and environmental problems.

The types of investment offered through Wellers Impact are exciting opportunities, with the potential to do good and deliver healthy returns. However these investments are not without risk and are only suitable for High Net Worth individuals and Sophisticated Investors. You will be required to certify that you qualify if you wish to find out more. Please see our fact sheet on Wellers Impact.
