How can we help?

Any building still in its original condition which was built before 1700 is likely to be listed, as well as many building built before 1840. And any building erected between 1840 and 1914 which may be of historical significance may also be on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.

There are three grades of listing. These are as follows:

• Grade I: buildings of exceptional national importance.
• Grade II*: important buildings of more than special interest, with some national significance.
• Grade II: buildings of special interest but mainly of local importance.

We can help you decide whether it is in your interests to pursue such a transaction and can help with all the legal challenges you might face in relation to a building that has been placed on the national register.

A listed building is:

• The building or structure itself.
• Any object or structure fixed to the building.
• Any object or structure within the area of land the building sits on (‘curtilage’) if it was in place prior to 1 July 1948.

We can also assist clients in relation to local planning authority building preservation notices that are made in relation to buildings currently unlisted, as well as with alterations made under a Listed Building Heritage Partnership Agreement (HPA). Other areas of expertise include Listed Building Consent Orders (LBCO) and Local Listed Building Consent Orders (LLBCO)
