Since Wellers Law Group LLP in Bromley, Kent was founded in 1881 the world has changed dramatically. In law too, change has been both profound and prolific.

A proud and progressive history

Wellers Law Group LLP, always an advocate for positive change, has grown and we have developed in parallel with the needs of our clients. In the very early days of Wellers, this meant building up a major litigation practice in Kent. By the 1950’s it meant adding further layers of expertise; in property, wills, probate and trusts. In the 1970s Wellers expanded into commercial law and attracted a new client base of private and public companies in Kent and London, seeking expert help with employment, litigation and complex company law.

In the 1980s, Wellers also moved into the wider area of family law, helping clients to deal with divorce, separation, custody and associated financial issues and we now have one of the largest departments of matrimonial solicitors in Kent.

By the last decade of the 20th century, Wellers had become a familiar part of the legal landscape in Kent, London and further afield. Families and individuals, particularly in the local community of Bromley, saw Wellers Law Group LLP as a safe and caring pair of hands for their personal affairs.

Businesses in the UK and overseas were attracted by Wellers’ considerable reputation for corporate law and finance, amassed by our knowledge of financial structuring  and helping public companies towards successful flotation. Charities and not-for-profit organisations also began to see Wellers as an expert source of advice, helping the firm to its current trusted position as legal advisor to over 400 charities.

Practices that have joined Wellers Law Group

Wellers has continued to grow and evolve in harmony with the needs of clients. The Family Law department was strengthened by the acquisition of Charman & Gore in 2007, another well-established firm of solicitors in Bromley; a merger with City firm Cooke Matheson has added weight to the commercial portfolio. We have also expanded into Surrey acquiring Hedleys Solicitors and further into Kent with the acquisition of The Reece-Jones Partnership in Sevenoaks. This wider sphere of operations and services has been recognised by the creation of the Wellers Law Group, a unifying brand which underpins and respects the individual identities of the member firms whilst emphasising the high standards that unite them.

Growing for the future

Today we are a full-service modern legal practice operating from seven office locations in central London, Kent and Surrey serving personal and corporate clients in the UK and overseas.

We continue to develop and expand our range of legal services for those who are looking out for the financial future of their families and business interests, establishing Wellers Wealth, our specialist tax and trust adviser. Wellers Wealth is well equipped to help you navigate the tax complications of your personal and business finances.

A wider purpose

Through our diverse client base, we at Wellers Law Group have come to realise that many of the world’s problems can’t be solved by legal services alone. We believe it is our duty to look out for those who need support in other ways, both in the UK and overseas.

Wellers Law Group are proud to partner with and support a range of companies and charities who share this mind-set. Wellers Impact, an impact investment firm that funds amazing circular economy innovations, was founded through our CEO, Neil Sandy. Wellers Impact supports projects ranging from plastics up-cycling to make construction materials in Kenya (Gjenge) to nature based solutions in Peru (TNC). Through Wellers Impact, we have the pleasure of supporting Water Unite, an award-winning business that uses micro-levies from water products to address wider water access and pollution problems across the globe.

As well as social investment for all our futures, philanthropy is a core part of our values. We are proud to support charitable initiatives in the local communities we serve, where we can. A number of our senior staff and board members are also trustees for GivingWorks, an umbrella charity that enables people to set up their own tax-efficient charitable foundations to help a range of causes, from cancer research to providing education in developing countries.
